Operational Impact and Timeline
In a filing with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, Valero confirmed that work on the refinery’s Complex 1 began at 12:30 p.m. on Friday. The process involves the facility's FCC unit, a critical component used to convert heavy crude oil into gasoline and other high-value products. While flaring is a standard safety measure during such transitions, it signals a temporary reduction in normal processing activity at the site.
The McKee facility is a significant regional asset with a total processing capacity of 204,000 barrels per day. This latest maintenance period follows a similar, shorter intervention at Complex 1 that took place between Jan. 20 and Jan. 22. Valero has not provided additional details regarding whether this current work is part of a broader turnaround strategy or an isolated repair.
