Severe Storm Cuts Power to 289,000 Massachusetts Customers

Eversource Energy reported that 237,996 customers in its eastern service territory were without power as of Monday afternoon. This figure represents nearly 20% of the company's 1.25 million regional accounts. While the eastern half of the state struggled with the elements, Western Massachusetts remained largely unaffected, with outages hovering around just 0.5% of the customer base.

Coastal Infrastructure Under Pressure

The impact was most severe on Cape Cod, where utility maps showed outages exceeding 70% of total customers in several municipalities. The combination of heavy, wet snow and intense wind gusts proved particularly destructive to local power lines, according to the company’s real-time outage tracking.

Other utilities in the region also reported significant disruptions as the storm progressed. National Grid indicated that approximately 51,418 of its customers in Massachusetts were without electricity, bringing the total number of affected residents and businesses across the state to nearly 290,000.
