Cartesian Therapeutics Shares Jump on WestGene Licensing Deal

A 25% surge in premarket trading greeted Cartesian Therapeutics Tuesday after the biotech firm secured a strategic licensing agreement with WestGene Biopharma. The partnership aims to integrate WestGene’s lipid-nanoparticle delivery technology with Cartesian’s mRNA CAR-T payloads to accelerate the development of in vivo treatments for autoimmune disorders.

The collaboration centers on advancing novel chimeric antigen receptor T-cell therapies, specifically targeting myasthenia gravis. Cartesian plans to initiate a Phase 1 trial for the chronic autoimmune condition during the second half of this year, leveraging the delivery system to streamline the transition of additional programs into human clinical trials.

Financial terms remain partially private, though WestGene is set to receive an upfront payment alongside future development and commercial milestone incentives. Shares of the late-clinical-stage company reached $7.35 ahead of the opening bell as investors reacted to the potential for more efficient therapeutic production.
